Le Sirenuse: Where Luxury Meets Legacy
An icon of the Italian coast, shaped by the family who brings it to life—an ode to Positano’s sirens, a testament to timeless hospitality, and the epitome of effortless luxury.
I love when a hotel has meaning, history, and soul—when it’s built not just on the foundation of a beautiful setting, but on family and legacy. A hotel isn’t just a place to store your things, freshen up, or rest your head. It’s your home away from home. It’s the bartender who remembers your name, the warmth of a familiar welcome, and the quiet feeling that you belong. It’s a reflection of rich culture and deep appreciation for both the past and the future.
Most luxury hotels deliver on what they’re supposed to—flawless service, stunning design, and world-class amenities. But then some go beyond, infused with such genuine passion and personality that they offer something more: a true sense of place. In this new series, I’m going to highlight the hotels that do just that, and it’s all On The House.
Le Sirenuse: A Family Legacy in Positano
You know when you fall in love with a place just as much for its story as for the place itself? This is that.
Since 1951, Le Sirenuse has been woven into the fabric of Positano, ever since siblings Anna, Aldo, Paolo, and Franco Sersale transformed their 18th-century family summer home into a hotel. What began as an intimate seaside retreat soon became one of the most iconic hotels on the Amalfi Coast, known for its warmth, elegance, and enduring family spirit.
At the time, Positano was still a quiet coastal town, known mostly to locals and a handful of artists and writers. And the Sersales saw its potential—the dramatic cliffs, the sweeping terraces of their home, and the obvious allure of Positano’s beauty. With just 12 rooms, they opened Le Sirenuse, welcoming guests with the same warmth and hospitality they had extended to friends and family for years.
The transformation was a family effort. Aldo and Paolo Sersale, with their passion for design and impeccable eye for detail, curated an atmosphere that felt luxurious and deeply personal, blending antique furnishings, hand-painted tiles, and carefully chosen artwork with the home’s original architecture. Anna Sersale, known for her hospitality and grace, ensured that guests felt like family, setting the tone for a warm, welcoming, and timeless level of service.
The hotel has grown over the years, evolving into a 58-room sanctuary of effortless luxury while preserving its charm and character. Today, the next generation—Aldo and Francesco Sersale—carry the legacy forward, honoring their family’s vision while introducing thoughtful refinements that ensure Le Sirenuse remains not just a place to stay, but a place to return to, time and time again.
More than 70 years later, Le Sirenuse is more than a hotel—it’s a family home, a love letter to Positano, and a testament to the Sersale family's enduring commitment to hospitality. Even as it evolves, its soul remains unchanged, carrying forward the warmth, style, and spirit that have made it a cherished retreat for generations of travelers.
A New Season at Le Sirenuse
After chatting with Antonio Sersale this week, he shared his excitement for Le Sirenuse’s reopening in April. This season brings refinements across their food and beverage offerings, enhancements to their rooms, and the emergence of their beach club, all designed to elevate the guest experience with the kind of small, meaningful touches that define true hospitality.
When the season begins, Antonio is looking forward to revisiting a few of his beloved local favorites: Lo Scoglio, Da Vincenzo, Le Tre Sorelle.
